Welcome

Welcome to the DUT's Your Web-Your Way! If you are someone like me, who would like to learn more about Web 2.0 technology, this is the programme for you! I have been wanting to explore these tools on my own, without little success. I need colleagues to join me - in other words to force me forward!

Using a blog to deliver a portion of an educational programme is a new experience for me. A BIG thanks to Mary Astorino from UNBSJ and Sue Davis from NBCCSJ who designed and piloted this programme in the spring of 2009, and for their generosity in giving me permission to use the programme as one aspect of the DUT. The online programme was built using freely available Web 2.0 technologies.

Over a period of 10 weeks (some may require a bit more time) we will become familiar with a variety of Web 2.0 tools. Together we will explore these tools to determine their value for teaching and learning in higher education.

I want to stress that this programme will not require a great deal of your time. There are no tests and only one high pressured deadline - i.e., you need to have completed the programme by March 31. You can work at your own pace, whenever and wherever. This is a programme to enjoy and an opportunity to collaborate with and learn from other members of our DUT group.

Be sure to read the Tips for Success link on the right. Then, when you are ready, begin working through the list of weekly activities. I will be monitoring your progress and encouraging you (and myself!) along the way.

I am looking forward to sharing the journey into the Web 2.0 world with you over the next few months, Judy

And as a sort of PS the Center for Learning Technologies has created a learning tools compendium with a list of the top 100 learning tools for 2009 . The tools are organized by
  • the name of each tool with a short description and link to it,
  • the type of platform required, and
  • the cost
So, isn't it great that we only need to learn how to use 20!
